The 200 Yard Scarf Knitalong

This knitalong was just started a few days ago, when I posted a photo of this scarf blocking on the Artyarns Facebook Page:

It uses an antique edging from 1900, and I jazzed it up with some short rows to turn it into a crescent-shaped scarf. I used Ensemble Light doubled, color H30 to make the first one:

Then because my mom wanted it, I made another in Ensemble Light doubled color H31, purple, and this is my go-to scarf this winter. I love the way it wraps around the neck like an open cowl.

How can you get this pattern? It is only available as a knitalong. Here’s how you participate. Post a photo of the Artyarns yarn you will be using on this Ravelry Pattern Page by hitting “Cast On” then adding a photo to your project. I will send you Part 1 by private message on Ravelry. After you knit Part 1, you will post a photo of that, and I will send you Part 2 by private message. Again post a photo of Part 2, and you will get the last part, Part 3.

If you block it and post a photo of your finished scarf, I will send you a gift, a free copy of the Ocean Dancer Shawl pattern.

1. Go to the pattern page here

2. Click on “Cast on”

3. You will be see a popup window where you can name your project and you can name it anything you like. Click on “Create this project”

4. Follow the instructions to add photos and yarn information.

5. When you have completed the project including adding your photos of your completed Artyarns cowl, you are automatically entered!

Thanksgiving Time

Today at the office, we had a big family meal of Chinese food and wonderful brownies baked by my sister. We were all shocked when we realized that Thanksgiving is only one week away! November has flown by in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, and we lost many hours at the office due to no electricity. Happily, though, our power has been restored and we are churning out yarns once again at full capacity. We have a lot to be thankful for.

Thanksgiving always makes me think of colorful leaves, spending time with family, and, of course, knitting! Jimmy Beans Wool has a special surprise for you all, which will be revealed on November 16th. I was given a chance to contribute, and I think you’ll enjoy it. I don’t know much else about the project, except that some wonderful dyers and designers are also involved.

One of my favorite dishes from the season is corn pudding. You’ll see that my contribution reflects this in colors. I can’t reveal too much more, but here was my inspiration:

Vogue Knitting Holiday: Keyhole Peplum Pullover

Vogue Knitting’s Holiday 2012 issue is about to hit stands, and we are so impressed with the Keyhole Peplum Pullover, which uses our Ensemble Light and Mohair Splash.

This stunning piece was designed by Carolyn Noyes. It features a top-down construction, 3/4 length slightly flared sleeves, and garter stitch peplum and collar. It looks like the perfect holiday sweater. The colors used are so classy – colors 308 and H12 gold – but it would look equally beautiful in one solid color, or in a black and red combo. Check out this 360 video to get a better look:
